Hi Lodger. Slightly off topic but do you know if a lair map exists for the private walled burial ground? You kindly found my ancestors in the burial ground Lair No 389 but i wouldnt know where to start in looking.
Cheers,

Hi Taz,

I don't know if there is a plan but I think there could be. Best thing to do is to ask at the gravediggers bothy.

Hallo Lodger,
new here so I hope I'm doing this right.. I'm looking for a headstone picture for John Cumming d. Cambusnethan 1880. He's not on your list above but
in the list of Cambusnethan Old Churchyard Monumental Inscriptions from Lanarkshire Family History Society rtJ 2003 there is this mention:

"216/2 John Curnming died 12th September 1880 aged 85 years. His wife Margaret Clark died at Overtown 13th January 1895 aged 96 years. Their children.. " etc

I'm sure I saw a picture online a few months ago but neglected to save it and can't find it since. Hope you can help.

Cheers from Robert in Switzerland

Dear Lodger,

One of my ancestors was John Frater who moved from Wishaw in the 1860's to Manchester. Do you know if the name Frater is mentioned on any of the graves there...

We have hit a bit of a brick wall with John

Best Regards

Hi Alan,

The name Frater does not appear on the monumental inscriptions for Cambusnethan but it does appear in the burial records.
There are children for the following couples -

JAMES FRATER & MARGARET GRAHAM.
WILLIAM FRATER & SARAH McBROOM.
THOMAS MAINS & ELIZABETH FRATER.
ADAM BRYSON & MARGARET FRATER.
DAVID DICKSON & ANNIE FRATER.
ANDREW HAMILTON & GRACE FRATER.

Hope this helps a little.

Hi Lodger

Thank you it does I think. We have a suspicion our John may be the son of the Elizabeth Frater that married Thomas Mains as one appears on the Census returns with her

Best Regards
Alan

Hi Lodger.

John Frater was born circa 1844 in Wishaw. We have never been able to find a marriage for him and his wife Hannah Fitzpatrick (maiden name) who was from Manchester. She may have previously been married before John and called Davies.

Best Regards
