Got married in Sheffield, Yorks for some reason and returned to

What is the last census entry you have for each of them?  Where were they living at that time

When was the move to Manchester

As you will already know from any search on freebmd - there are numerous marriage entries for each of these names so you need to narrow your search by using the county in which they were living on the last census found.

Have you already discounted the Emma Walker marriage in Lincs in 1886?

The family are still in Lincoln in 1871.
Reference RG10, Piece 3371, Folio 64, Page 5

Walker, Eliza  Wife  F  30  b Lincoln
Walker, William  Son  M  10  b Sheffield, Yorkshire
Walker, Jane E  Daughter  F  7  b Lincoln
Walker, Emma  Daughter  F  5  b Lincoln
Walker, Harry  Son  M  1month  b Lincoln

In 1881, William is a Navvy, on the railways?
Reference RG11, Piece 3241, Folio 21, Page 35

Green, George  Head  M  26  Excavator on Railway, Navvy  b Selby, Yorks.
+ wife, 3 children & neice
Walker, William  Lodger  M  20  Excavator on Railway, Navvy  b Sheffield, Yorkshire

The rest of the family are in Manchester:
Reference RG11, 3908, 115, 21

So, the family moved to Lancashire after the birth of Arthur in 1872, and before the birth of Joseph in 1875?

For Jane, I searched the 1891 census for any Jane, born 1864 in Lincoln.
I reckoned she would probably still be living in, or near, Manchester.

So this marriage seems to fit?
December qtr 1882
Chorlton district (which covers Gorton)   Vol 8c, Page 1096

Walker, Jane
Stabler, Samuel Joseph

And the census:
Reference RG12, 3230, 119, 27
1 School Court, Manchester

Stabler, Samuel  Head  M  31  General Labourer  b Manchester
Stabler, Jane  Wife  F  27  b Lincoln
Stabler, Annie  Daughter  F  7
Stabler, Samuel J  Son  M  6
Stabler, Phoebe  Daughter  F  3
Stabler, William  Son  M  2
Stabler, Harry  Son  M  6months     all children born Manchester

There is another possibility for Jane, in Ashton Under Lyne?
Jane Williams, age 28, married to Enoch of North Wales
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Hi KGarrad,

Thank you so much for all the information you have found, it has been a great help & I have noted it all down, will also have a look at some of the censuses & save them.

The Jane who married Samuel J. Stabler seems to be a very good bet, as the family moved to Gorton & later to Ardwick down the road.

Thank you for all your help, much appreciated.

Regards,

Spatts.

Hi Geoff,

Hope your well.

Just going to check out the 1881 census, KGarrad has Emma as being with family at 6, Ernest st, Gorton, Lancs. Unless Emma returned to Lincoln??

I'll come back when I've had a look.

Cheers Geoff.

Hi Geoff,

yes, Emma is with family in Gorton on the 1881 census, Father:- Joseph Walker, Mother:- Eliza Walker nee Kirk.

The marriage on the link has James as the father, so I would imagine Emma would have got married in or around Manchester, probably Gorton, Chorlton or Ardwick, Hmmm.
