Would it be worth looking for Thomas Evans mariner on the 1851?

the only one I can see is a carpenter. I seem to remember that merchant vessels weren't enumerated until 1861 & then only if in coastal waters. My Edwards mariners from Pembs were very good at missing the census apart from one year when one of them was enumerated twice, at home & on the ship he captained in Swansea docks.

I've searched the census of vessels and can't see any obvious candidates. The only Timothy is too young & born in Oxwich. There's a Thomas born Aberayron around 1828 or so, & that's not a huge distance from Llanrhystyd.

Maybe a cert or 2 needed?

Yes, I think you are right, I shall try and locate a birth cert for Jane with a father Thomas, mariner.  My sincere thanks for your time, effort and kindness.
Kind Regards
Roy

I also don't think this couple are likely to be your ancestors as I think they fit perfectly with another Jane EVANS I am researching.  In her marriage 1886 to Walter COOTE, it names her father as Timothy EVANS.  Her census returns also make her birth around 1865, Aberyswyth or Llanrhystyd.  She is also living with Timothy and Margaret in 1881 at 20 Lower Chapman St, St George, and in 1891 she is living at the same address, now married to Walter COOTE.

I think she's mine!! :-)
