Susanna Shakespeare & John Hall
« on: Saturday 02 July 11 13:40 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

After reading some letters from a few of my relatives such as Beatrice Green and Eleanor Green who are now deceased i have come across the SHAKESPEARE FAMILY, the letter is about one of my relatives trip to Stratford-on-Avon and that when she looked at William Shakespeare's genealogical tree she came across the family of HALL with her family crest on.

She later asked the man in charge and he said that the crest belonged to the women who lived at the Manor of Tiptofts, in the letter it says: " I knew granny green's maiden name was Hall, so found the man that was in charge, i asked him he said that it was undoubtedly the same person"

I have done some research and have come across a John Hall who married Susanna Shakespeare in 1607, they had a daughter by the name of Elizabeth Hall who was born in 1608 and married Thomas Nash and then married Sir John Barnard and she became Lady Elizabeth Barnard.

There is some connection with the HALL FAMILY AND THE SHAKESPEARE FAMILY, i was wondering if John Hall had any brothers? so i can find descendants and point it back to Grannie Green who is Emma Elizabeth Helen (nee. Hall) Green.

regards,

genealogist sykes

John Hall had a Coat of Arms.Is this what's referred to as the family crest.
What timeframe are you in with Beatrice,Eleanor & "granny Green"?
Working forwards is extremely difficult,it's better to work back from "granny Green"
What do you know about her?
What is the name of the Hall she married?
We need to know when & where these people lived.
John Hall (Dr.) was born 1576 Carlton Beds. according to the blurb, but although there are others of that name born around that time there isn't a John.

That's a good find MR,Wimbish is the location of one of the Tiptofts Manors (I found 2).
I've seen this family (Wimbish 1851 cen.) before,I think we need the poster to ' fess up as I think they've already been researched.

I think MR has the right Emma.
1851 census you already have in your Gayton posts.
Emma is the daughter of Martha Westrope Gayton & Francis Hall who is the son of Thomas Hall Esq. & Jane ?
Martha's mother also Martha is the wife of Carteret Gayton & in the 1848 directory for Wimbish Martha is living at Tiptofts Manor which means Martha & Emma Hall are also living there.
So the "women at Tiptofts" as mentioned must be Martha & Emma Hall.
Francis Hall died in 1832 Saffron Walden age 31.
There's also a Francis Thomas Hall death the same year age 2 who must have been Emma's brother.
As an aside in 1851 there's a Henry Hall listed as visitor at Tiptofts,he is the brother of Francis ie. Martha Halls brother-in-law.
The other brother was Richard Hall b.1803.
There must have been at least one other brother as Richard is living with his sister-in-law in 1871 Mary P Hall.Henry was married to an Anna.

You seem to be getting there as Weston Colville is only a mile from Carlton where John Hall was born.
