Lieutenant Benjamin Thomas RN - early 1800's
« on: Sunday 03 July 11 03:14 BST (UK) »
Dear All,

Is there any way I can find out more about my g-g-g-g-grandfather, Benjamin Thomas, who apparently achieved the rank of Lieutenant in the RN?

I know he was in Bristol in Jan 1818 as that is where he married.

I know he was deceased by 1839 - stated on his daughter's marriage certificate. It is also stated on this certificate that he had achieved the rank of Lieutenant.

He could likely have been deceased by 1827 as his wife remarried in that year.

There is a Benjamin Thomas, ranked as Quartermaster's Mate, listed on HMS Tonnant, but I can't tell if he is ours.

Any suggestions or ideas will be most welcome!

Many thanks in advance,
OzJen

Hi OzJen,
I just found this as am looking for same.  Any feedback or new info since you posted this?
I see Benjamin Thomas was mate on "Annie" 1814 Cert.79446, and mate on "Isabella" 1815 Cert.67537 but as with "Tonnant", I don't know if this is our man.
Cheers
Ruth

Thank you both for your replies.
The other two threads are both ones that I've contributed to. If you can add anything to those, Ruth, I'll very interested.
I agree that the "Tonnant" link is unlikely.
Where did you find the other listings, please?
Cheers.
