Can someone tell me if a Prisoner in 1901 died in Prison would their death still be in the BMD registers?

I found a relative in 1901 in Staffordshire Prison and viewed their records at the records office. They stated she wasn't fit for trial, it doesn't however tell me what then happened to her. I can find no death record for her and she doesn't appear in the 1911 Census so presumably had died.

Any help appreciated.

Susanna Thompson abt 1859-1861 ( varies on Census returns) lived in Oldbury West Bromwich.

yes all deaths have to be registered

You cannot have a burial or cremation without giving the undertaker a certificate from the registrar

If she wasnt fit for trial, maybe she was transferred to a hospital or mental institution --possible in a totally different area

Could she have married ? A relative of mine was in prison in 1901 with her illegitimate child, I couldn't find anything on her after that until I looked in the marriage indexes ! I found her marriage, her 1911 census entry and her death.

It is a possibility but I thought as she wasn't fit for trial or prison she most probably would have died. This lady had a long history of theft and fraud so I wouldn't have thought they would have left her go. She already done several bouts of hard labour.
