Hmmmmm, not sure about that one!
Had a look on the 1841 census to see the birth place but it's just 'add'
for middx so not sure aboout the Ostend.
There again like you said the steamships went Holland and Belgium.
I am going to digest this and look at it fresh tomorrow.
If I get a chance have a look on family search as sometimes they have better
records than ancesty.

Do you know anything about where I can look to find  margate sailor records for the 1793 George?

Thanks for your help and I'll update tomorrow.  ;D

The 'birthplace' for Caroline on the 1841 is 'N' - meaning not born in same County
I'm sorry I can't help with Margate sailor records.  Perhaps thiswebsite might be of interest: http://www.margatelocalhistory.co.uk/

Hi Casalguidi

My tree on ancestry is backed up by records until George Blucher 1820 Margate.
I got the name of George and profession of Sailor for his father from his 1842 marriage banns.

As ancestry wasn't coming up with records I went onto familysearch.org and  a found baptism record for George Blucher 1820 Margate giving father's name George and mother Sarah.

Still on family search, I then found a baptism record for George 1793, Margate father Daniel and mother Elizabeth. I also found a baptism for Daniel 1757 Margate, father Daniel and mother Sarah along with a marriage record for Daniel Goodbun and Sarah Sackett dated 21 Jan 1754.
I  have printed out records for other Goodbuns which I need to sort through and see if they can be grouped into families.

First census for George Blucher is 1861, St Pancras. Wife Charlotte, sons George Blucher 1843 and Henry 1850.

Thanks Carole  ;D

1851 Bourne End, Wooburn, Buckinghamshire

John E GARDENER head mar 60 warfinger b.Marlow Bucks
Charlotte wife 66 b.Marlow
George GOODBURN grandson 8 b.Pimlico Middlesex
Ellen TIBURN grandau 3 b.Bourne End Bucks

HO107/1719 folio 49 page 5
...............

1851 Mary Street, St Pancras, Middlesex

Charlotte GOODBURN head mar 32 dressmaker b.Little Marlow Bucks
Henry son 9m b.St Pancras

HO107/1493 folio 770 page 31
................

1851 3 Warwick Square, St George Hanover Square, Middlesex

George Blucher GOODBURN unm (sic) 30 footman b.Margate - servant to William Adam LOCK a parliamentary agent

HO107/1478 folio 581 page 19
..................

I, too, think the GOODBURN family (George and Sarah) in the 1841 census at the Wharfs in Augustus Street are the correct ones.  Notice Charlotte is living in Mary Street at the time of the 1851 census - the same street as her mother in law, Sarah GOODBURN.

The baptism records for the children in Margate should give the occupation of their father.
