I have ben unable to locate and am interested to find:
1. details of her parents and their marriage;
2. any siblings:
3. her first marriage and if there were any children;
4. the death of her and her husband.
Any assistance / information would be appreciated.

Hi think this could be Isabellas first marriage

Isabella Scot married Andrew Johnston on 2nd Feb 1799 at St Marys, Carlisle
thats on Familysearch

I did look for Richard Armstrong as you didnt mention whether you had found
him.  I could only find one born around the time you gave
Richard Armstrong b 30th November 1774 at Edinburgh City
parents are William and Christian Cleghorn. FR9172 on Scotlands people.

Thank you everyone for the details supplied. I've now tracked Isabella Scott's, dau of Isaac Scott, family back through several generations, though obviously no certainty this is her, other than same Parish and age that this is the right person.
The marriage listing I have is definately Murray so I can't see that the marriage to Johnston is the correct one, but yet to discover a marriage of an Isabella Scott to a Murray or death of one.

Yes the Richard Armstrong listing in Edinburgh is the only one that comes up but doesn't really fit. He's a long way from home (though being one of youngest sons that is not necessarily an issue) but perhaps might have expected to find Christian being used for a daughter. Hard to prove.

Many thanks again - if anyone else can make suggestions to expand this research that would be helpful.

Hi folks.
Further to my earlier post about this couple back in 2011 I am seeking assistance please with any Church/other records in Carlisle around the death and burial of both Isabella and Richard. (They were married in St Cuthburt's).
They are living together at Willowholme, Carlisle in the 1841C as independents aged 65. There is then a death for an Isabella Armstrong dated 2 January 1844 for Carlisle Cemetery.
There are two likely deaths in the Civil Regn Index for 1843 and 1845 (both June qtr).

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

The Richard Armstrong death Jun.1845 was for a 2 year old.

Richard Armstrong death Jun.1843 was aged 67 - buried 12/4/1843 Holy Trinity Church, Carlisle.

There is then a death for an Isabella Armstrong dated 2 January 1844 for Carlisle Cemetery.

Carlisle Cemetery didn't open until 1855, but I can see that there are other Armstrongs in the same grave, including a John who died in 1842, and at least three others, James, Elizabeth and William.  It seems likely that the deaths before 1855 are a memorial rather than a burial or are wrongly transcribed?

The Isabella Armstrong who died in 1844 was only 2.  There was a death in 1841 for an Isabella Armstrong, she was 64 when she died.

There is a death notice in the Carlisle Journal on 14 August 1841: In the Willow Holme, on the 9th instant, Mrs. Isabella Armstrong, aged 64 years.
