"S.S.Cambrian Countess"
« on: Tuesday 12 July 11 23:51 BST (UK) »
Hi There,
Im trying to find a passenger name Mr A Wright who left Montevideo for England on February 17th 1928 sailing on the S.S. Cambrian Countess.
I have searched the passenger lists for some time now without any success and would be very grateful if someone may be able to help or point me in the right direction as to where I should be looking.

Thank you

Maureen

Is the ship you are looking for possibly a freighter, carrying a few passengers, and not appearing in passenger lists.

Hi There,

I really wouldn't know whether it was a freighter or not!  would it be a different search if it was, and if so where would I look?

Here she is http://www.photoship.co.uk/JAlbum%20Ships/Old%20Ships%20Ca/slides/Cambrian%20Countess-01.html

A tanker?

Looking at 10 year period either side of 1928, there are only 2 passengers listed as arriving in UK on the Cambrian Countess.

They were a Mr Dodds in July 1927, and a  Mrs Roberts in August 1927.

Thank you Shaun, I have to say I'm a bit confused, it doesn't look like the sort of ship I imagined that passengers would travel on.
This gentleman was a business man who was travelling to England for a holiday to stay with family.
Would it be usual for passengers to travel on a tanker?

in the old days many wealthy people travelled on tankers, cargo ships and the like, a lot of people liked to travel this way as there were not many passengers.
they were called Banana Boats, as some of their main cargo was bananas.
the English cricket team that toured the West Indies in 1959–60 used banana boats to travel across the Atlantic and between the islands.
havent managed to find the one your looking for though ;-(
good luck!

maureen39 -

Have spent a few minutes looking for your "missing" passenger Mr. A Wright and haven't found any new information to assist you in your search.

Where did your original information come from? Are you sure about the date of departure and  the name of the ship?
