The Eric in 1901 http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/census/View.jsp?id=82199&highlight=46
and 1911  http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/census11/SplitView.jsp?id=122882

The mother's name changes from Georgiana to Marcelle and is "widow" on both.

However, it needs to be proven that this is the correct family

Hello alllegs and welcome to the Canada board  :).

The baptism record for Evangeliste who was born and baptized 25 Jun 1896 (date matches the census nicely so assume correct child) has father Marcel Bernier and mother Georgina Thibault.

The problem now is going to be to find a marriage for Eric(k) to Marie Diane so these POSSIBLE dots can be connected. I haven't found one as yet, unfortunately.

Bernier is a very common name in Quebec.

Eric was apparently married twice.

1st marriage ....

Eric Onesiphore Bernier
f. Marcel Bernier
m. Georgiana Thibault
to
Marie Diane Gaudreau
f. Pierre Gaudreau
m. Clara Tremblay
11 Oct 1915 at Basilique Notre-Dame Quebec City Quebec Province Canada

2nd marriage ....

Joseph Eric Onisiphore Bernier Widower of deceased Marie Diane Gaudreault
parents as above
to
Ann Marie Bernadette Lachance
20 May 1924 at same church as first marriage above.

Looks like this Eric is most probably your man. Now to find a baptism for Benoit. Birth year given in the archives doesn't quite match the wedding info.

Well done Polar Bear...knew you'd find it...

One needs to look for the aigu accent in order to find it quickly online... Eric Onésime Bernier ( aha! Not so anymore now that we have it listed on rootschat! haha)
and here is a site with much of the above information and MORE!!! including accents and some full names ie: "Georgiana Zoëlle Thibault "

http://nantibo.philgay.qc.ca/fel/pafg90.htm

Allegs...Note that French Catholic female babies were often given the first name Marie....so when you see "m" on the site, in front of a forename,  it stands for Marie.

Eric Bernier died 05 Apr 1925 age 31 years 8 months and was buried at St-Coeur-de-Marie Church Quebec City. I haven't been able to find a burial for Marie Diane as yet.

I don't know if your friend is aware there was a child born within the short marriage of Eric and Bernadette? I will PM details in case this person is still alive.

I have not been able to so far find a baptism for either Eric or Benoit. Both appear to be well hidden. As an aside, in Quebec civil registration of BMDs did not start until about 1994 so the only record of a BMD until 25 years ago is a parish record of same.

The 1921 Canada Census is due to be released in early 2013 and will hopefully be of help in tracing Eric and his family at least to that point .... Benoit will hopefully appear on it at least. A little bit of a wait unfortunately.

Joseph Evangeliste Bernier, son of Marcel Bernier and Georgina Thibault, was baptized in 1896 in the St-Eugene (L'Islet) church.  This lead to the baptism of Ulric in the same church on 2(?) July 1893.  His baptism is indexed as Marie Onesiphore Bernier.  The 1915 marriage referred to Ulric alias Eric.

Good find Debbie!! How fabulous is that!  :D You and Polarbear are so awesome to look through the Drouins for Allegs!! ...that was a tricky one...I knew marie was used for males as well, but more as a second name...
Benoit may also have a saint's name, or like his father, no benoit in the birth name at all ..
