It's a really weird situation and I agree - men didn't usually do a runner with their children back in those days - particularly ones that young

I wonder how he decided who would go and who would stay?  They had 7 children in total although one died 1901 - did they decide to have 3 each hence Nellie, Ethel & Dorothy staying with Annie???

Unless there are any living family members who can shed any light on it, I guess we will never know

I'm glad they all stay in touch with each other though!. Annie going back and forth to Montreal and Nellie who must have gone there as well.

I wonder why some of them ended up in Wales .... maybe to escape a scandal?

Maybe Treddz can fill us in!

there is a lot of info here ...the only missing bits are Alfred and Freddie....they just seem to have disappeared.

I have searched the National Archives in hopes of finding a divorce or any snippet, to no avail.

I wonder if it was Annie who was unfaithful?? Maybe Alfred then found a new interest and went off taking the children with him -but allowing annie to see them occasionally.

Maybe Dorothy Ruth wasn't the daughter of Alfred -and that's why she stayed home with Mum???
Annie was a "housekeepr" and most of the housekeepers in my tree went beyond the call of duty -one of mine even describes herself as "Housekeeper & Paramour"

Could Mrs "Newman" be Mrs "Trueman"??

This is only a guess

1901 Alfred & Annie have a visitor "Rose Trueman" age 19 b.Lavington Wilts

I think she is the daughter of  William J Trueman and Anna M Meade
1891 William J Trueman was a widower and sister in law Mary J Meade is living with them

By 1901 William J Trueman has married his sister in law - but I can't find them after 1901???

Hi Suz

I got a little excited at the thought that Newman could be Trueman .... I looked again and it's def. Newman or even Neuman.

I'm searching for Alfred and Frederick Cecil Gurney Barlow again!

If they are not on the 1911 census where the heck are they?? Unfortunately Quebec does not have marriages and deaths like the Ontario records.

I also can't see an incoming passenger list for either of them. Maybe I should look for more PLs for Annie to see if she ever mentions her son Freddie.

after that I'm at a loss  :-\

deb

I searched for "Newman Barlow" ....of course she appears as Mrs Newman Barlow on the passenger list and then they is a guy born 1920 with Newman as his middle name, Barlow surname, MMN Newman. This is in Hampshire .....
