Samuel Palmer
« on: Tuesday 19 July 11 14:07 BST (UK) »
Hello
Please would someone take a look and see if they can find Samuel Palmer & his wife Mary Jane (nee Marsh).
He is the father of Samuel Ernest Palmer, 1st Baron Palmer.
I know Samuel & Mary Jane were married in 1856 in Hackney  and that Samuel was from Northcourt, Hampstead.
Thanking you in advance

was Sam jnr born 1Q 1858 Marylebone? Just cant pin them down yet in the 1861 census....

In 1871 said Marylebone-born Samuel was a pupil in Worcs, Great Malvern.

ahhh, how about THIS Samuel Palmer, wife Mary J in the 1881 census - A wholesale Biscuit Manufacturere, employing 3300 hands ! Sounds like the right industry, based on Sam jnr's later life.

1881 census of Marylebone -  RG11/Piece: 163 Folio: 60 Page: 6 @ 60 Finchley Rd

Samuel Palmer 61 Head of Household born Somerset, Long Sutton: Wholesale Biscuit Manufacturer
Mary J. Palmer 49 Wife born London, Stepney
Charles H. Palmer 20 son born Marlbro Hill, St Johns Wood: Biscuit Manufacturer
Gertrude J. Palmer 19 dau ditto

Mary A. Turner 50 Servant Nurse
Julia Cruse 32 Servant Cook
Sarah Mills 26 Servant Parlour Maid
Sarah Price 29 Servant Housemaid
Emily Lavington 20 ditto

Thanks Groom - thought so, based on FreeBMD!

In 1871 Mum & Dad Palmer and a raft of kids are already in Marylebone.

RG10/Piece: 186 Folio: 84 Page: 12 (cant get at images at the moment)

Long Sutton PoB is confirmed for Samuel snr.

Eldest child c1857, Marlborough Hill, St Johns Wood was a Florence M. Then comes the Charles you see in 1881, while Sam jnr we saw at School in Worcs.

Just no luck in 1861, and its not a missing section according to my sources.

That looks like the family  "Palmer was the eldest son of Samuel Palmer, of Hampstead. He was a Director of the family firm of Huntley & Palmers Ltd of Reading, Berkshire, the largest biscuit manufacturer in the world."   ;D ;D
