Yes I'm not really convinced either.  Also that 'Carfax St' pic is dated 1967 and there is also a photo of the cleared Christ Church site dated 1964  (listed as Christ Church Openshaw) http://www.rootschat.com/links/0ede/

And yet.. the clearance site pic has a row of little huts in the background. Could they be the same row of huts in the front of the 'Carfax St' photo?
http://www.rootschat.com/links/0edf/

If so it would mean the Carfax St photo shows Christ Church spire from the back, but with another building between the huts and the spire. The wall beyond those huts would the Christ Church graveyard.

Hard to believe there isn't another photo of it somewhere to clarify!

Well at least looking into your query has solved one of mine! I tried to find a photo of Church Street, where my gt gt grandmother was living in the 1890's and found that had been renamed Charlesworth street. And there is a photo of that!
Perhaps the Manchester Evening News has a photo of Christ Church in their archives.

Nice one Berrie and I think Barbara could also be right

Just found in a corner of a map from 1915 the actual footprint of Christ Church and it sure looks like the so called Carfax St church.

Looking at the map from the angel of the photo - School in back ground, church, place for row of houses (now garages) but more importantly is what was next to the houses, very large buildings and these show up on both the photos.

Now I am convinced 90% that the church photo was taken on Cowper St and the clearance photo taken on Church St before it was renamed Charlesworth St.

Just before I turned off my pc last night I did a search on rootschat and found a thread Liverpool Annie posted which both me and Barbara were involved - Oh how memory fades  ;D

What ever happened to Liverpool Annie?

But still not happy I need a better photo  ;)

First of all I can confirm without doubt this is a picture of Christ Church Bradford as I lived just a few streets away until mid 1960.

http://www.rootschat.com/links/0edf/

This photo shows the rear of the church with Christ Church Primary school in the distance on Charlesworth Street with the small spire above it. The entrance to the church was on Charlsworth Street that was re-named from Church Street. (I don’t know when it was re-named.) I lived in Jenkyn Street which was 4 streets away from this view that was also re-named as it was known as John Street. The grave yard was all around the church.

This picture was taken following the demolition of the Church and taken from Charlesworth Street outside Christ Church School, Bradford NOT Openshaw as it states.

I recently had some help from a local historian who gave me a lot of info regarding the Church and the whereabouts of the records for the graves. There are some articles in the archives from the MEN that he very kindly linked me to that give information and some pictures of the demolition in progress at the time.

Hope this helps. ;) :)

Hi Mal 19

You are a star  :D

The reason for this thread was I found out my Gt Gt GF was buried there after years of hunting for him also 4 weddings have taken place, including a double wedding on the same day for my family.

Do you know of any better photos of the church and it's graveyard. I know it is 0% chance of a grave photo but just to get an idea of it was like would finish off these hunt.

As for the older church records -  http://www.rootschat.com/links/0edr/

Next would be to convince the Manchester Archives they have it wrong.

Thanks once again

Ken  :)
