Burial at Bristol 1940. Can anyone help ?
« on: Thursday 21 July 11 13:51 BST (UK) »
Hello....

I wonder if anyone can help, with the burial of ALDYTH V MURPHY, who died in the last quarter of 1940, age 22

Her son, has died this month, in Australia, and wishes his ashes to be buried with his mum, who died when he was just a year old.

Her interment, I suspect was in a Roman Catholic Cemetery. She may be with her father, who died in 1936. His name was Horace Egerton Gill.

The names of any cemeteries in Bristol, which were used at this time will also be helpful. I am going to send for her death certificate today or tomorrow, but thought I would give Rootschat a whirl first !

Regards

Hello Jeannie R
I will try to help you if i can. I work next door to the Records Office in Bristol.
Bristol of course is a big city but I will see what I can do. There are many cemeteries here and church yards - but if the Mother was RC that might well help as well as any info from the death cert to narrow the search.

Also if you email cems.cems (at) bristol.gov.uk
( change the at for @ and remove spaces)
this covers most of the cemeteries in Bristol- ask them to check their records for Aldyth Murphy - and ask them for a list of cemeteries not covered by their records. Explain the circumstances of your request and hopefully sympathy and goodwill will prevail.

I will check for further information from you here and try to see if the record office can help

All the best
sue

Pm with details and in the meantime I will see what I can find out for you

all the best

Sue....

Thank you, so very much, for your offer of help.

I did manage yesterday, to find a list of Bristol Cemeteries, by "googling" .
and I did think to start ringing or emailing with the request, but was not sure if it would be better to have a date of death, and a address.

There is no real urgency, in a way, as Patrick's family in Ausralia, are still in shock, and do have to make quite a few arrangements, to do all this. But it is a comfort for them to know, that the search is on.....

I am seeing some other members of the family. this evening, and will put them in the picture, so to speak....

Thankyou, once again

Hello Jeannie
I notice from the wills section on Ancestry that Horace Egerton Gill who died in 1936 lived in Redland Bristol. This is not far from Clifton where there is a RC Church. It might be worth adding this church to your list.

Monday lunchtime I will check up the records for Burials at BRO and see if they cover 1930 to 1940

best wishes

Dear JeannieR
I cannot find Burial records in Bristol Record Office for as late as 1940. Your best option is to contact Bristol council and ask them to check their registers.

I am sorry i have drawn a blank and hope they will offer a sensible answer for you

kind regards
Sue

Sue,

Thank you very much for your efforts. We are really grateful.

I shall contact Bristol Council perhaps tomorrow.

I should think they will be sympathetic, given the nature of Our enquiry

Very best wishes

Hi There, I last week visited the Holy Souls Cemetery, its next door to Arnos Vale Cemetery on the Bath Road ,Bristol. I was looking for a grave of a person who lived in Clifton, it was situated there, the Cemetry is on the internet, and they do searches. if you do find a plot number for there, I will willingly go and search for it, I must tell you though,it is quite overgrown.so a search is not possible unless you have a plot number.

Hello There...

Thank you , for your very kind offer, but we are all "sorted"

I obtained Aldyth's death certificate, and with that approached the main Cemeteries office at Bristol.
They were able to locate her grave, and as I thought, she was buried with her parents.

Arrangements are being made for her son to be laid to rest with them.

Kind Regards

JeannieR
