Is this him in 1901:

Griffiths Valuation has a Melvin Kelly renting a house, offices and 3 acres of land in 1863, in Benraw townland (modern address would be near Whitehill Rd).

Thanks all, Melvin did indeed stay at that address, he also had 13 children by Ms Perry, 10 of whom survived I have the names of 10 of them and I know that his father was named John but have hit a brick wall as to who his mother was!

I only joined the site today and this was my first post so :) thanks again

Melvin’s birth is before the start of statutory birth registration in Ireland (1864), so you won’t get a birth certificate for him. You might get his mother’s name from his baptism if the records have survived.  From his religion in the 1901 census, he would likely have attended the local Church of Ireland parish church.

Details of parish records are on the PRONI website:

Still plodding along with this family but have come to a brick wall with one of Melvins sons, his name was Richard b 1894. I cant find anything about his life after 1901, ( I have also checked on Scotlands People as several of Melvins family came over here ). Richard is still living in 1919 as his name is listed along side his siblings on a memorial newspaper cutting for Melvins death, and he signed the covenant c/o Mrs Mcendoo (his sister) Downpatrick,he is not with this family on the 1911 census.Any help greatly appreciated.
