Orton Baptisms Help/Lookup

Hi,

On the IGI site, batch C05567-1 there appears a family that may be mine. However, I am a bit confused by the entries.

On the first two entries, George Potter 27 Feb 1809 & Christopher Potter 24 Feb 1812 the parents are given as John Potter and Jane Thompson

On the next two, William Potter 26 Feb 1814 & Isabella Potter 30 Mar 1817 the parents are given as John Potter & Jane

Does this mean in the first two, Jane is entered as "formerly Thompson", they were not married, or even that Thompson was her middle name?

If any one can explain what this means, or can check the PR for me, I would greatly appreciate it.

I have John in the 1841 census, with the three youngest children (George married before then), but can not find his marriage to Jane.

On the older version of IGI found this:

John Potter christened 28 Dec. 1774 Tebay, Orton Westmoreland, parents George Potter and Isobel Wilson

John Potter married Jane Thompson 24 August 1809, Orton, Westm.

John Potter buried 16 Jun. 1846 Tebay, Orton Westm.

These were records submitted by a member of LDS church.

It looks a good entry although member submitted are often dodgey.
John is 65 Yeoman in 1841 where ages were rounded off, Christopher 25, William 25, Isabella 20.

Hi Claire,

Thanks for that. It would suggest then, that the PR for the first two state she was formerly Thompson.
Also, the names of John's parents ties up well with his & Jane's children.

I would love to see original registers, but am miles away in Essex. May be "old school" but I like to confirm IGI entries. However, so far they seem to make sense.

It looks a good entry although member submitted are often dodgey.

Fully agree. I would never base a tree on them, and like to check the PR. But in this case it looks promising.
