Margaret

I have hit a complication with regard to John Westlake and Grace Glass

apparantly the records show John and Grace marrying 28/3/1767...

a John Baptised 31/10/1770....
a John Baptised 4/8/1771...

that in itself is not a problem as I know they often kept using the "names" when children died...

then we have
John Bapt 12/12/1783 a gap of 12 years?
George Bapt 26/02/1786
William  Bapt 14/07/1788
James   Bapt  13/11/1791
Richard  Bapt 27/10/1793
Ann       Bapt  1/10/1795
Simon    Bapt  21/10/1798

I believe Grace age was 16 when she married and so she is born in about 1751... that would seem ok but the year of birth I have for John is Dec 1756 so he would have only been about 10 when they are married????

Grace would have been about 47 when Simon was born in 1798  which would seem old but not without being in realms of possibility.

I wonder if you can shed any light on the marriage  eg do we have the wrong date of birth for Husband John and are there any other children bap between John of 1771 and John of 1783 that could belong to the family.....

Cheran ::)

Hi Cheran,

I think you have a mistake here -wrong marriage

John WESTLAKE = Grace KIMBER 31 Mar 1783 Northlew

Cheers Kris  :)

Kris

Now you have really thrown me!

I have a John Westlake bap 21 Dec 1783  married to a Grace Kimber on the 4 January 1813 Northlew....
(from previous family research so could be wrong....)

so do we have 2 marriages with the same name?

Are Simon's c 21/10/1798 parents John Westlake and Grace Kimber?

Where do Grace Glass and John Westlake marr 28 Aug 1767 fit?  are they the parents of John Westlake marr to Grace Kimber?

Are Grace Glass parents possibly   Edward Glass and Margaret Trennaman with a brother John Bapt 23/6/1730 and also a sister Ann Glass married to a Samuel Locke 25/9/1763...  Edward and Margaret are married 8/4/1730?

Emanuel appears to be the son of Robert WESTLAKE and Mary DAW. They are in Beaworthy in 1851

HO107/1885 Folio 55 Page 17
Robert is a farmer formerly mason aged 64 b Northlew and Mary 63 b Beaworthy. Daughter Mary Ann 25 b Beaworthy a Glover and Kaziah a granddaughter aged 5 b Beaworthy

Cheers Kris  :)

Thanks Kris for this.  how did you find that Robert was Emanuel's father....

I don't know who John is. There are 3 John's born about the right time in Northlew, according to submitted entries, which you will need to verify and find out if any of them died young.

10 Mar 1755 parents John and Jane
5 Dec 1755 parents Robert and Mary
23 Jan 1757 parents John and Susanna

It seems to me that John = Grace GLASS have nothing to do with it. As  they didn't marry  until 1867 they could not possibly be John's father.

I am afraid we are back to you needing to order in these Northlew films to your local LDS FH Lbrary to try to sort this out.

Cheers Kris  :)

Yes Cheran that marriage is right, but as you can see they are not the parents of someone born in the mid 50's. - the one which was wrong is where you mentioned John WESTLAKE = Grace KIMBER 4 Jan 1813. It was George WESTLAKE who married Grace KIMBER not John

Thanks Kris

I am still confused though and will have follow with with micro films from North Lew when time permits..

I have Changed George to be married to Grace Kimber 1813 which makes sense as on the 1851 census John of 1783 with his brother Richard and his wife, John is listed as single not a widow...

I am now working on the idea that John and Grace Kimber would be the parents of

John 1783, George 1786, William 1788, James 1791, Richard, 1793, Anne 1795, Simon, 1798

all born North lew...

but then I have Margaret's info which seem to confirm it was John and Grace Glass... I don't think I know now.

I think I wish I had this one in the too hard basket?

Cheran :-\

Yes I think that is right Cheran. George and Grace appear in Beaworthy in 1841 and 1851. Good Luck.

I would be pleased to receive any information on the descendants of
Simon Westlake who emigrated to Australia in 1857
His father I believe was John Westlake and mother Grace unknown
The researcher by the name CHERAN seems to be asking all questions and enquiries that I am interested in.  Thank you for your time Cheers Susan
