Anne BARNES - Shaw Green

Hello Rick and the rest of you Herts researchers.

I'm struggling! Anne Barnes Nee Dilley born Rushden Herts aged 52 was living at Hines Cottages Shaw Green Wallington 1881 census. I've been looking for her death registration (FreeBMD) without success in Royston; Hitchin; Hertford RDs. Also Herts Beds and Cambs.

I know she married c. 1847 and had about 10 children. Her husband Thomas died in Wallington Union Workhouse c.1904 and I think he lived in Hines Cottages almost until he died  having taking the property on in 1846 after his parents passed on.

Could somebody please establish whether Anne was alive in 1891 and/or 1901. Either living in Wallington/Rushden or visiting one of her children.

Obviously if you can spot the death record I'd be ecstatic.

In 1891 - both Ann & Thomas were alive and well and living in Hines Cottages Wallington with sons George 25 Charles 23 and Thomas 17

The baptismal dates are useful. I knew of all the children but didn't have Christenings. Can everybody see this data you found - on the Internet? Does it contain burials too?

The census details were good although the ages were a bit iffy. Thomas was born c 1815/16 and Ann c. 1830/31. I do know now that Ann died after 1891 and before 1901. Some Ancestry Family Trees show 1895 but without provenance; I'm a sceptical sort of chap!

The deaths were the real problem for me. I think we can exclude the Watford RD Ann Barnes. Too old and nowhere near Wallington/Sandon. The Biggleswade RD is of more interest, although I'm unable to find any of Thomas/Annes' children living at an address near Biggleswade. However, the town is almost as close to the villages as Royston. I guess the death registration could have happened in Biggleswade. (just 7/8 miles up the A1 from Baldock).

I looked at the 1881 census for a suitable Bedfordshire Anne Barnes. Nothing obvious popped out. So the Biggleswade Anne may be my lady. Think I better make a visit to Hertford and look at the Wallington/Rushden burials.

I looked at FreeBMD and did see the Biggleswade RD death. I looked at the original but it was typed not manuscript and so not particularly helpful - typos. Are there any other computerised BMDs?

Anyway thanks again for your efforts. If anything else springs to mind........!

then search - then Record Pilot - then put in
Barnes
christenings
location - wallington ,hertfordshire
I did check for burials and there was a James Barnes in 1848 which could possibly be a first child of Thomas and Ann seeing as they married in 1847 and the first christening is 1850...
but...I only checked Wallington
if you think of another village - have a look yourself....good luck
