Station Hospital, Colchester
« on: Friday 12 August 11 09:49 BST (UK) »
I have found an old book "Walkers Pronouncing English Dictionary" with a stamp in it from STATION HOSPITAL, COLCHESTER and it looks like it has a date stamp of 22 FEB 95 (1895).

I understand that my Grandmother's father came from Colchester who was born around 1880.

The book belonged to his sister - L. LORRAINE.

I would like to find out about the family history in Colchester and the Station Hospital.

Hi

Many thanks, but I'm not sure if this is the same Lorraine family. Since my previous post, I have found out more :

L LORRAINE is the sister of WILLIAM BERTIE LORRAINE born 16 August 1889 who married Eva Banham in 1913 and had my Grandmother, Evelyn May Lorraine in 1914.

You should have said so before! ;D

Try this, for 1891:

Reference RG12, Piece 1451, Folio 179, Page 7
Depot Suffolk Regiment, Newmarket Road, Bury St Edmunds

Lorraine, William  Soldier/Head  M  31  Sergeant, Medical Staff Corps  b Scotland
Lorraine, Sarah Rebecca  Wife  F  31  b Dompland, Essex
Lorraine, William Bertie  Son  M  1  b Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk

Access to any Free 1911 Index look-up will show you that William and Sarah Rebecca had a daughter born in Birr, Kings County (aka Offaly), Ireland in 1896.

Many thanks !!

It looks like the L LORRAINE named in the book I have belonged to LILIAS MAY LORRAINE, born 1896.

there is a lilias lorraine aged 23 milliner dresses  born colchester visiting on the 1891 an ipswich address input as lilias loiraner

There is also a Lilian E Lorraine daughter of John and Elizabeth born 1865  If you look on the 1871 census itself you will see it reads Lilliass not Lilian
They are  living at colne bank road which is near to the Station
She could have worked there as a seamstress :-\
