Dorset Record Office / Poole Union Workhouse
« on: Friday 12 August 11 11:22 BST (UK) »
Would love to find out any information about my ancestor Thomas Trim Fry's time in the Poole Union Workhouse. On his 2 April 1891 burial record at Longfleet, his residence is listed as Poole Union. Do records survive for the workhouse to find out when and why he went in there? Thanks.

Hi,

This site has some info;  looks as though records are held at the Dorset History Centre (ex Dorset Record Office).

Thanks for that.

Sheesh, £27 for one hour's research. It just is not affordable for most people. Don't record offices understand that you start out with two ancestors with your Mum and Dad, by the time you get a few generations back there are hundreds. If we wanted to research all their lives at £27 an hour...

Hi,

Combine a visit with a few days at the seaside perhaps?

Did you ever find out anything about Thomas's time in the Poole workhouse?  I'm also descended from him and would be interested in anything you found out.
