1891 for Wick - all shown as born Wick - George was born 1880 - presumably Margaret died during or shortly after giving birth to him

Alexander Doull 69 b Wick
James A M   39 son b Wick
Jessie   14 g/dtr b
George 11
Wick ED 11 Page  5 Line 15

In 1881 - George Doul (one L) is shown as the nephew of James Harper 40 &
Johan Doul Harper 32
Wick ED 10 Page 11 Line 7

If there is no re-marriage for James between 1881-1900 - then whoever reported his death made an error

Hi Ann

Giving the wrong name on a death certificate is quite common. This is because either the informant was in a bit of a state and gave another family member's name or just didn't really know.

Who was the informant?

Was Barbara shown as deceased?

Just had a look

George Doull, the informant on his father's death cert,  was born 22 May 1879, Thurso. His parents were James Alexander Macintosh Doull and Margaret M.S Taylor.  Given that his mother died so soon after his birth, it is very likely that he got confused about her name.

Also note that James is described as a widower in 1990 and no matches for the death of  a Barbara Doull 1880-1900

George b, Thurso in 1881 and 1901 censuses

The informant was George Doull their son. George Doull was 25 years old when he married Mary Laurie she was 22 years old, they were married 1905, Edinburgh, his parents were James Alexander Doull and Margaret Taylor, I have found his dob which is 22/5/1879 Thurso, and found Margaret Taylor's dod 1880, she died of Typhoid.

What name is given for his mother on his death cert?

If James had been married twice, it would normally be entered on the death cert  - viz

1 Margaret Taylor, deceased
2 Barbara Taylor, deceased.

I think it was just an error on George's part.

His mother's name was Margaret Taylor on the death certificate, it must be a mistake.
