Brook Family - stanley Wakefield
« on: Wednesday 17 August 11 19:31 BST (UK) »

I am researching my family tree and wondered if anyone would be able to help or point me in the right direction.

My Grandfather was Albert Brook he was born Jan 1916 in Stanley, he was one of 8 children (4 girls + 4 boys) i know he had a brother called Harold & Ronald i am not sure of 3rd brother name,
I know he had a sister Violet who was born aprox 1904 and we think one sister was called Gertie.

My Grandfathers dad was called Jacob Brook and his mum was Charlotte Elizabeth Brook (maiden name downes) , I have found on the census that Jacob brook was born in 1880 at 11 Lower Lake Lock Rd from the census I have found he had siblings Florence brook and Alice Brook.

Jacob and charlotte Married  Sept 1902 (charlotte was born at bottom boat)

I do think that Jacobs dad was James Brook and his mum Mary but before i continue i need to be sure i am on the right track.

i am almost certain I have the right family and wondered if anyone knew anything
any help you can give is much a[ppreciated

Emma

Hello  :)

Ok so, I checked Births  and this is what I can see when I type in Brooks with the mother's surname being Downes:

1.  1916 Coventry, Warwickshire. (July-August-Sept Quarter)
2. 1920 Coventry, Warwickshire. (Oct-Nov-Dec Quarter)
3.  1919 Wakefield, Yorkshire West Riding (Oct-Nov-Dec Quarter)
4. 1923 Wakefield, Yorkshire West Riding (Oct-Nov-Dec Quarter)
5. Violet Brook 1904 Yorkshire West Riding (April-May-June 1904)
6. Gertude (Gertie) Brook 1909 Wakefield, Yorkshire West Riding (April-May-June Quarter)

Hope that this helps in some way

Annie

Hi,
Looking on www.freeebmd.co.uk, there seems to be only a couple of possible birth regs for an Albert Brook JFM 1916 Wakefield.
One has mothers maiden name Holt and the other mmn Cross.
In AMJ 1914 Wakefield there is a birth reg for a Mary Brook, mothers maiden name Cross-Downes.
Not sure why the surname changes or if connected to your family  , if you think this might be a possible it would need further investigation.

There is a tree on Ancestry with Charlotte Elizabeth Downes - is this yours?  Some nice photos attached to it!

It looks as if the Cross Downes surname comes from Charlotte's father.

Looks like the tree belongs to Harold's daughter.
