Can anyone suggest a way to find out when a member of NOFU returned home from Scotland to Newfoundland after World War 2 ?

Thank you.

Hello

You could try contacting the Military Records Contact on this site:
Newfoundland Overseas Forestry Unit
http://ngb.chebucto.org/NFREG/WWII/ww2-nofu-index.shtml

Also this excerpt from the obituaries page mentions the crossings:
Besides those who died, another 335 members of the Unit were repatriated to Newfoundland due to injuries or illness. They travelled in small groups on 47 crossings between the 20th of April, 1940 and the 29th of April, 1946. The S.S. Drottningholm of the Swedish-American Line played a prominent role in these transatlantic journeys, crossing may times with Newfoundland and Canadian service personnel.

Thank you both for your suggestions. I was aware  of these sites and I have now tried to contact them but links seem to be out of date. Not sure where to go from here.

Thank you again.

Have you tried getting the person's military records. I am not sure how to go about it but there should be information through Newfoundland libraries or archives. If you know the place that the service person was from, you may be able to access information from the newspaper archives or library. Libraries are a great place to search for info as they sometimes have access to local books, newspapers, family histories. Local genealogy groups can also be helpful. Veterans groups can also be an avenue to search for information. If the person is no longer living, you can post more information on this thread and someone may be able to find the information.

Have you checked the Newfoundland section under  Canada Resources.

Many thanks Valeriec,

I followed your advice and found the NOFU member on a ship's passenger list returning to Canada.

Result! Thank you very much for your excellent suggestions.

I have re-established the Newfoundland Overseas Forestry Unit website at NOFU.ca. A bit soon to find it on a google search but it is up and running now and I am populating it with info from the earlier version from a number of years ago.
