Would Gyda have needed special permission for the baptism - or was it permission to put Bernt's name on the record?

If she needed a special permission I don't know, but she would certainly have to face the shame. An illegimate birth was a potential family disaster those days & not all illegitimate children grew up, if you see what I mean....

I don't think Bernt would have been asked....

tæring = tuberculosis?

Yes.

I think this is Carlot's family in 1865:

His father Arne Arnesen is not too bad off, owning his own farm with two large cattle, four sheep etc.

Also, I think Carlot's mum's confirmation is #4 here in 1854:

Oline Knudsd, residence Skomagermoen, to parents Knud Knudsen and wife Martha Syversd.

Grandad Knud Knudsen Skomagermoen is also one of Carlot's Godparents, proving he was still alive in 1865...

Martha Syversd, however, died before 1865.....

As you see, a lot of details can be found, time is the limit....

Looks like Føderådsmann Knud Knudsen b 1806, died Oct 25, 1876 at Skomagermoen:
