COMPLETED with thanks; Hargreaves 1881, please (prob. Manchester area)
« on: Sunday 21 August 11 10:50 BST (UK) »
George Hargreaves (born c 1853 Manchester) married his cousin Mary Jane Hargreaves (birth reg'd Q1 1856 Manchester) on 5 March 1876 at Christ Church Bradford (Manchester). The marriage register image is on the new FamilySearch site. Both have "Manchester" as place of birth on pre-marriage census entries. From FamilySearch there is a baptism at St John, Miles Platting of a son Samuel on 21 April 1878 (no image) - birth registration is probably Q1 1878 as Prestwich. That's the last I can see of any of them. He was a plumber on 1871, a fitter on the marriage register.

I've looked at deaths, but can't see ones that would cover all three before the 1881 assuming they didn't move far. Can anyone find them in 1881, please?

Hi

Just a thought but have a look on the 1880 US census, free on Family Search, there is a Geo HARGRAVES aged 25 born England  machinist, along with wife Mary J aged 24 born England & son Saml aged 2 born England, also a daughter Edith aged 4months born PA in ALTOONA BLAIR PENNSYLVANIA.

Could these be your missing family. :)

Maddie

Just had a quick look through to 1930 & this George is still in same place in PA. Hope he is yours. ;D

Maddie - thank you! That really looks to be them - I had had a look at passenger lists on FindMyPast but they don't start till 1890 - I'll now check elsewhere.

Many thanks indeed  ;D

You are welcome. ;D I have a family that disappeared after 1871 only to turn up in Massachusetts on the 1880 but have never managed to find their sailing, fingers crossed you find your Hargreaves. ;)
