hi, Been searching for anything about our Thomas Dunsby 1700 for many years.
Started searching again in the hope something has turned up.
I can't find the Sarah Saunders that keeps being mentioned.  Any clues. ??
I have found a Dunsby family in Northants but dates don't match.
But feel I could search on that line if we have something to go on.
Been through Yarnton records back to 1600 and no Dunsby.
Would appreciate any knowledge.  Thanks

Hi verarose,

Welcome to rootschat.

I have found a Thomas Dunsby bapt. 6-7-1735 the s/o Thomas & Sarah,  in Yarnton.
This date nmay be too late for you as you mention 1700. The Sarah could be a "Saunders" although I haven't found a marriage.
There is also a burial for Thomas Dunsby 22-10-1781 Yarnton. Of any use?

The original registers are available to view on-line if you have a sub. with Anc...y

Welcome to Roots Chat Vera Rose.

I suggest not dismissing the info immeadiatley, certainly that being offered by Ribbo - in my experience it was not and is still not today, unusual for someone to get baptised as an adult? Particularly if they wish/ed to be married in church rather than a registry office and in the period being searched here, there weren't any of those either?

Thanks for replying, I do feel like its banging head against a wall in search for Thomas 1700.
Searched records all within decent radius of Yarnton and no Thomas to fit.
There was a Thomas born to poor travelling woman (no surname) in 1695 in Yarnton records.
I do have the old book that mentions the Dunsby families coming from the village of Dunsby in Lincolnshire for their skills but none before 1700.
Although we hear of Mary Savoury, Roberts wife being skilled in dying, spinning and village midwife.

Hi
I have had another look for you and may have something of interest, see what you think?

The Oxfordshire Family History Society (OFHS) have an Oxfordshire Marriage Index 1538 -1837.
In that index is the following;
Sarah SAUNDERS of Yarnton married at St Mary Magdalen Church, Oxford on 15 June 1718 to
Thomas DANSBY of Farthinghoe, Northants.

In the transcribed parish records of St Mary Magdalen the marriage is there but the grooms last name has been entered differently - I think by mistake.
the entry records a marriage on 15 June 1718 between Thomas DARNSLEY of Farthinghoe, Northants and Sarah SAUNDERS of Ettington, Oxon (Warwicks). She may have been from Ettington originally and staying in Yarnton?

There is NO baptism for Sarah in the transcribed PR's for St Bartholomew Church, Yarnton.

I think the marriage in the Marr Index is yours and a search of the  Northamptonshire PR's -specially Ettington is needed now for Sarah's baptism?

Anyway I hope this all works for you?

Thanks for this and will spend another rainy afternoon looking into this.
I have always dug in about ‘adopting’ an ancestor cause the date fits etc.
It has got to feel right.  But many of you seem to feel good about Sarah Saunders.
It’s amazing what Oxfordshire has made available, unlike other countries.

Hi verarose
Just found this thread Thomas Dunsby and Sarah SAUNDERS are my 6x gt grand parents
How do you relate to them?
I think Sarah was the one baptised 9 Mar 1700
baptism/christening place:   KIDLINGTON,OXFORD,ENGLAND
father's name:   Thomas Sandars in Kidlington Oxford I wonder if that Ettington reference on the marriage was a transcription error Ettington is in Warwickshire not Oxfordshire.Kidlington is only about 3 miles from Yarnton.
Do take a look at our web site  mcmullin.me.uk  it may be helpful
