Hi Folks,

I am looking for help please, I am try to trace a Farmer by the name of John Shearer possibly at Markle in Thurso in 1866, also wanting to find out if there was a Mill at Clarden or Clardon his name was John Sutherland and is down as a Miller by profession.

I would be most grateful for any help regarding these people please.

Just a wee bit about the placenames ...
For Markle try Murkle (a couple of miles east of Thurso)  and for Clarden or Clardon, try Clairden/Claredon.
Claredon Hill is close to Murkle.

Shearer is anything but an unusual surname at this end of the country.

Ayrshire: Craig, Orr.
