Winifred GRAY
« on: Monday 29 August 11 18:45 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help in tracing my great great grandmother Winifred Gray who came from Sligo, possibly Taunagh. She was born cir 1837 and her father was called Francis born cir 1817. Winifred emigrated to England where she married Patrick Killen, {born cir 1831 possibly in Castlebar, County Mayo, Ireland}, at St Patricks RC Chapel, Felling Shore, Gateshead, Durham on 10 May 1856 and they had 7 children.  Patrick probably had at least two other brothers, John who married Ann McCoy and had at least 1 son called James and Thomas who married Margaret Anna Hart between 1851 - 1853 and they had 8 children.
Any help would be gratefully received. Thanks.

What is the source of the place of birth you mentioned for Winifred - Taunagh ?

There 's no location that I can see on the townland database http://www.thecore.com/seanruad with that spelling in Sligo, but there are a couple of locations with a similar sounding name - two townlands named Tawnagh, and a civil parish with the name.

have a look though these topics ..

St Patrick's Felling Marriage register  10th May 1856

Patrick Keelen of Heworth Lane son of William Keelen and Bridget Mullony of Tuam, Co Galway
to
Winifred Gray of Heworth Lane daughter of Francis Gray and Ellen Flannelly of Kilmacshergan (sic) Co Sligo. NB Priest's phonetic rendering of Kilmacshalgan.

witnessed by: Patrick O'Hara of no special residence (a traveller) and Jane McCoy of Shore. NB: That would be Felling Shore.
