Shakespeare Mearns
« on: Tuesday 30 August 11 21:20 BST (UK) »
I have him - born about 1822 Stratford-upon-Avon   :). Can't find any early record for his birth, but he married Harriet Moyses in Lincoln 1851.  I have found a 1851 census - Lincoln - for his mother Charlotte - b C. 1788 Lincoln - fish dealer. But no father. Other siblings were William c 1816 Lincoln and Valentine, believe 1824 - looks like Reading Berks.

Have found one son of Shakespeare & Harriet - Frederick Charles, born Lincoln
1851. On Frederick's marriage 1877 Lincoln, Shakespeare given as Clothier & Outfitter.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Many thanks
Barbara

There's a marriage for William Mearns=Charlotte Barker/14/6/1814/Boston/Lincs.
There are 2 more children to this couple:
Leopold,Ch.1819
Walter Fortunatus,Ch.1818
William,Ch.1815.You already have.
All St.Martin's Lincoln.
I also notice Agnes b.1831 who appears on the 1841 census is also a child of William & Charlotte,Ch.Wirksworth,Derbys.She married in 1850.

1841 census
a prisoner in Lincoln City Gaol - Shakespeare Mearns, age 15, tailor, not born in Lincolnshire

Looks like he first married in 1846 Lincoln to Maria Cropper and she died the following year

1851 he was a widower living back with mum Charlotte & brothers William & Valentine

Father (from his marriage record on Family Search was evidently called William)

1841 census  Charlotte, sons William & Valentine, and daughter Agnes (age 9) in St Nicholas in Newport, Lincs

Many thanks for all this input - will now try and digest it all!
Wonder what dear old Shakespeare had done to end up in prison?!!

Much appreciated.

Thanks and regards
