Kingstown Breslins
« on: Saturday 11 June 11 23:59 BST (UK) »
Hi, I was interested to read that Breslin is an easy name to follow. My Great Grandmother was Mary Breslin from Dun laoghaire. Just wondering if you had any info on the Breslins from that area.
Mary Breslin (my great grandmother) was married to Patrick Byrne this is the 1911 census record
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Dublin/Kingstown_No__2/Sarsfield_Street/96602/
Not being that common a name I think I have a copy of her Baptism Cert from 1884 which lists her mother as Mary Breslin with no mention of the father.
In the 1901 census the only likely Mary Breslin I can find is staying with her aunt and uncle James and Cecilia Bryan. The address on both the baptism and the aunt house was Tivoli Avenue.
Sponsors at the baptism were Christopher Kelly and Bridget Breslin.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I didn't mean that Breslin was all that easy, but Toby is a very uncommon name, so HE was easy to follow!

I'll have a look at what I have - I've most of the Breslin burials in Deansgrange from about 1887 to 1972, but never looked at the Byrnes.

Hi thanks for checking them out for me.
Mary Snr had Mary Jnr 1884. Mary Junior was staying with her aunt 1901 so my gut feeling is the her death must have been between these dates.
Mary Jnr had a child Bridget Byrne (my Grandmother) 1917 who I'm told had to be raised by other relatives. Patrick Byrne I'm told died at the end of the war circa 1918, but was killed by a tram or bus or suchlike abroad. I think the mother died not long after but I cant be sure.
I know I've not given much to go on but fingers crossed something comes up.
Regards

Mark

Breslin burials in Deansgrange between August 1887 and May 1905.
I hope to look at earlier ones in the next few weeks.

only 2 I'm afraid .. I WAS careful, but I suppose I could have missed one

April 1892 .. Myles Breslin (48) bricklayer married .. Bath Ave Irishtown

March 1895 .. Mary Breslin (59) widow of Daniel .. 11 Tivoli Ave Kingstown .. burial managed by Patrick Breslin

In the BMDs, there's a Mary Breslin (18) death in 1884 in Rathdown  which includes Dun Laoghaire ... could this be her?

Eadaoin,
Thanks a lot for that.
The Mary Breslin at Tivoli Ave seems right for her mother.
The younger one is far too young.
I'll try and see if the number of Tivoli ties up and
I'll do some research into Patrick and Daniel Breslin  ;D
thanks again.

Eadaoin,
Thanks for checking that out for me.
Very Interesting.
Death of younger Mary is less than a year after My Great Grandmother Mary is Born,
Could be post birth complications.
The other Mary could be My Great Grandmothers Grandmother.
Food for thought,
Thanks Again,
Mark

Eadaoin,
Im 90% sure that both the Mary Breslins are my Great x 2 and Great x3 grandparents.
Is there any information on whether there is a Headstone at the grave (A1-71-N) and if so has anyone photographed that graveyard that you know of.
Regards

Mark-

I don't know if there's a headstone, or if there's a photo lurking somewhere.

I was in Deansgrange recently in the North Section, but looking at "W" not "A" - I don't expect to go back again for a while,
