Hello,
My ancestors are from Mount Eagle No 2, Rohan, and only the other day I spotted Ballyeagle. I am from laois, and both names seem familiar.
Checked Lewis Topographical dict 1837 and he refers to a national school at Ballyeagle. 1894 Rahanavannagh Graveyard has a Mary McDonald nee Mcevoy of Ballyeagle 1894. I reckon she is an ancestor of mine. Mounteagle shows up with Mcevoy in 1937 onwards.
Mounteagle is in the Electoral Division of Ballyroan, in Civil Parish of Clonenagh and Clonagheen, in the Barony of Cullenagh, in the County of Laois
The Irish name for Mounteagle is Baile Dhéigill
Mounteagle is on Logainm.ie: Mounteagle. according to townlands.ie
http://www.connorsgenealogy.com/Leix/surnames.htm is a good site for Laois families/townlands.
http://www.buildingsofireland.ie/cgi-bin/viewsite.cgi?siteid=259 gives a description of a big house that seems to survive no longer but was a townland. I assume the Mounteagle house numbers refer to estate houses.
http://historicgraves.com/tullore/la-tlre-0121/grave Shows an epitaph for a McMahon family both from Mounteagle and Ballyeagle.
So personally I'm not a lot wiser. However, we may be useful to each other. Mary Rohan or Roughan and variations would be my maternal ggrandmother. Lalors my paternal ancestors. My mother was Lalor.
Best of luck
