Shakespeare Mearns/Lincoln Prison
« on: Thursday 01 September 11 14:17 BST (UK) »
Hi, I have a Shakespeare Mearns (born c 1826 Stratford on Avon!) in the '41 census as a prisoner - aged 15 - down as tailor - St Swithin, Lincoln.
By 1846 he's marrying (Maria Cropper) and re-marries (as a widower) in 1851 (Harriet Moyses) - although he appears with his mother in the 51 census.

I doubt there are records as to why he may have been in prison?

And as yet, cant find any trace of his death.

Any help much appreciated.
Regards
Barbara

Thanks everybody. Some of Shakespeare's siblings had weird and wonderful names. Also as they were born in different parts of the UK, want to believe that father, William Mearns, was "on the stage" !!

Will look at the death you found for S. Mearno.

Any ideas though on prison records back in '41?

Many thanks
Barbara
