School records in Scotland
« on: Friday 02 September 11 02:50 BST (UK) »
Could anyone tell me how I find educational records for a former school in Scotland. It was Castle Daly school In Auchenmalg Old Luce -I believe it is now a hotel. A close rellie apparently went there between the years 1910 to 1920.

My experience is with Aberdeenshire, where the local authority has the records which are no longer being actively used by the schools. The two kinds of record are the admissions register, which gives a date of admission to the school, usually the child's date of birth, and a parent or guardian's name and address (although the detail varies from period to period) and the school log book, which records the events in the school year (although usually it makes relatively little mention of individual pupils unless they break their arm, win a prize etc.). You may have to fill in a form before you consult some 20th century records as many of the former pupils may still be alive.

You should look up the local authority website and find out from it about its archives.

Graham.
