Glasgow 1854 death- LONGMUIR
« on: Thursday 05 May 05 11:03 BST (UK) »
Trying to find death of Jane or Janet Longmuir(nee Wishart), wife of William Fisher Longmuir, probably in Glasgow from 1854 to 1855.
Any general tips for tracing pre-1855 deaths welcome.

Information on Parish deaths before 1855 can found here. Looks a bit messy and costly to me.
Looking for Hugh Marr and Mary Drummond.

Hello HH,

Have you tried posting a request asking for a graveyard/cemetery search?

Many people do this as a hobby, myself included, although not for as widespread an area as Glasgow. From an MI, you'd then possibly get other family members.

Alternatively, you could try 'Scotland's People' for a death certificate If it's available, you'll get the details of the exact date and place of death. This is a pay per view site but on the whole isn't that expensive (if you know what you're looking for!) You wouldn't get details of where they were buried but at least it would narrow things down for you.

Good Luck!

Anne

Re: Glasgow 1854 death- LONGMUIR/WISHART

I now have a copy of the OPR showing it was Jane Wishart who married William Longmuir on 5.4.1854 at Martyrs Church, Glasgow. If she died giving birth to their son on 8.10.1854, it is before the 1855 records, so I'm not sure how to trace it, but I'll ring the GRO to see what they suggest.
This Miss Wishart is proving very elusive. Any clues anyone?
