Janet Forsyth, b. Dirleton 1822
« on: Thursday 08 September 11 03:29 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find Janet Forsyth, daughter of James Forsyth and Helen Scott.  She was baptised in Dirleton on July 13, 1822.  In 1861, she was living in Kelso, Roxborough with her nephew, John Cochrane, and his family.  Oral history says she married and went to Australia.  Don't know where she married or the husband's name.  Any suggestions?

I take it you can't find her on the 1871 census? Have you checked Scotland's People for marriages and deaths after 1861? You don't need husband's name to search and her parents would be listed on the marriage record confirming you have the right person. There are lots of Janet Forsyth marriages on Family Search 1861 - 1881. One in Roxburgh to John Shearer in 1873 and one in 1874 to James Wood although those would be fairly old for a first marriage. Without checking SP record couldn't say it was the right one.

If she did emigrate to Australia before she got married you could post on the Australia board here for help. If she was married in Scotland first you should be able to find a record of a married name and then ask the Australia board.

Hi Melph,

There is a marriage record on SP for Robert White marrying Janet Forsyth at Ladhope, Roxburghshire in 1879, Janet would be 18 according to baptism. SP reference number 776/0B 0026. You can download this form website for 6 credits.
