Re James Spooner (1756-1847) and Sarah Higginson
« on: Thursday 08 September 11 04:47 BST (UK) »
Hi

I was just wondering if anyone could help me on possible ancestors for James Spooner (1756-1847) born Shrewsbury and his wife Sarah Higginson (1760-?) born Shrewsbury? They have an extensive line extending all the way to Australia descendants now and seem to have been the subject of some research before, but I don't think anyone has identified anything back further than them (if it exists).

Any tips greatly appreciated!

Regards

Paul

Hiya Paul....I have just looked on Familysearch -Advanced Search ...and there are 5 records for James Spooner born 1756 Shrewsbury,....and they are very conflicting..
1 record states b abt 1756
2 records say b abt 1756 - spouse SARAH HIGGINSON -married 12th march 1781
2 records state b abt 1756 spouse ANN HIGGINSON - married 13th march 1781
all submitted records
so ....we either have TWO James Spooners .....or possibly his wife was SARAH ANN HIGGINSON ...
I don`t understand the one day marriage difference ( 12th -13th march 1781 ) and the two christian names of his wife -Sarah or Ann
so...I think you have a delicate situation regarding James`s wife ...good luck....allan

Although Family Trees have James dying 1847 there seem to be no Census info to confirm this on the Trees.

1851 Census has a SARAH Spooner age 89 (birth c 1762) Shrewsbury, living in Tewkesbuy, Gloucestershire, a Widow.
HO107/1974/479/31
1841 she is in Tewkesbury, Age 80, independant, not born in County.
No sign of a James in 1841 Census.

There are some very conflicting records on Trees;
Eg THOMAS, Son of James/Sarah born c 1791 Tewkesbury Marrying Elizabeth DRINKWATER 1813. Another has the Marriage 1818 and Thomas having a earlier Wife Ann NORMAN Married 1813, Worcestershire. This one has James Wife as Mary LEE.

I think you need to go back to basics.
Research the possible Child of James/Sarah-Ann you are descended from and reaffirm all info.
May I ask which Child it is??

Trish :)

BAPTISMS, St Marys,Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire to JAMES/SARAH Spooner;
THOMAS 02 April 1791
BENJAMIN 10 April 1796
ESTHER 30 May 1803

Now to a JAMES/MARY same Church;
JOHN 18 June 1788
SAMUEL 27 October 1793
(Source FreeREG)

BENJAMIN was Buried 12 July 1803, Tewkesbury/Baptism 10 April 1796, Parents James/Sarah
(Source Familysearch.Org)
There is a BURIAL on there also;
JAMES Spooner, 30 August 1831, Tewkesbury, Glous, no age given.

Now if first Child recorded was 1791 and they supposedly Married 1781 (not confirmed, all info Submitted) then there must be other Children born c 1781-1791.
