Now I know where it is lurking I'll be doing general searches from now on  ;D

Once you have selected Old Search, Ancestry "remembers" your preference (in a cookie), even if you don't use the general/global search (which I never use either).

If you have made short cuts/bookmarks to specific databases under New Search, you might need to re-create them using Old Search.

I usually use the new Ancestry pages, but I do occasionally revert to the old style searches when doing detailed searches.  The new style search is very useful when doing new searches - it can bring up some valuable stuff.

I'm afraid that if we all used the 'If it aint' broke...' approach, we would all be sitting around under gas lamps, and we would certainly not be using the internet  ::)

but sometimes the developers over tinker Nick... and they probably are not thinking of their main user age group  ;D

I prefer the old style search as its simpler and more user controllable.

Remember they developers are also pushed along by what I regard as the great waster of time and resources. That is competition, they don't or won't realise planning and co-operation is a more effective means of attaining an objective.

No, no, no! Developers are pushed along by that scourge of modern society - Marketing and Management! ::)
They just produce what they are asked to.

Only obeying orders then! Where have I heard that before? Their masters will be pushing by the great scourge of competition though.

I've just stumbled upon this thread when I read that one could still use the old version of Ancestry!

I felt tremendous great joy, until I realised this thread wasn't referring to the current new Ancestry change! 😡😡😡

What a let down in both respects! 😄 I just can't get to grips with it at all, and its's certainly not through the lack of trying!
