Llangristiolus - Lloyd family
« on: Saturday 10 September 11 23:39 BST (UK) »
My great-grandfather Richard G. Lloyd emigrated to the United States as a young man in the 1880's from Anglesey.  I believe he was born in 1869 in Llangristiolus, in the middle of the island (near Llangefni).  I visited North Wales in 2005 and spend hours driving around the area and could not find a village or church of Llangristiolus.  My guess is that, as a parish and settled place, it has disappeared, though there are still some signs.

I understand the family lived at a place called Henblas, though I think that was a large manor house or farm.  Maybe they were tenants.  I believe Richard's parents were John Lloyd and Elizabeth Daniel.  John's parents may have been John Lloyd and Elizabeth Rowlands.  The elder John Lloyd may have been born in 1813, son of Jake Lloyd and Annie Thomas, though I don't know where they were from.

My great-grandfather became a general contractor in Utica, New York.  Utica was one of the centers of the Welsh language and culture in the U.S. for many years.  Unfortunately, I do not read any Welsh, beyond a few words my father remembered.  Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Some parish burial records are on Gathering the Jewel at the National Library:

Just put in Llangristiolus in the search box they'll be shown.

I think that one of these  might be John and Elizabeth's marriage:

Dec q  1861, Bangor v 11b p 926 - Llangristiolus is in this RD

Sept 1 1863, Anglesey, v 11b p 785

John Lloyd and Elizabeth Davies are on the same page for each. No Elizabeth Daniel(s) that I can see.

The North Wales BMD has the birth reg of a Richard Lloyd in 1869, Llangefni. Mother's maiden name given as Davies:

The village and a chapel still exist although it is a bit out in the wilds and not easy to find unless you know the area - there is also a grave yard. Henblas also exists still and if i am not mistaken could currrently for sale.
