Hi all,

just to kick start this again. I have just received the long awaited death certificate for Henry EARLE.

It raises more questions than it answers unfortunately. Cause of death is shown as, Found drowned (in the River Roding in the Parish of Great Ilford) but when, where or by what means there is no sufficient evidence to show. Inquest held 29th August 1889.

It seems I have stumbled upon a mystery. My next step is to seek out the Essex Times and also to go to the Essex Records Office and look through the Ilford burials. I'm now pretty sure that something like this would have made the local papers.

This will take me some time to get done as I am in full time employment and when at home in full time childcare but when I have some results I will update the post.
Ross - East Lothian.
Kirkham - Nottinghamshire.
Barker - Essex.

Henry John Earle was buried 02 September 1889 In Newham. He had been experiencing head pain for a number of weeks before being found dead it was reported in the Essex Newsman, although the inquest found no indication of cause of death.

FindMyPast have a number of newspaper articles about his disappearance and subsequent finding of his body, and the inquest. Apparently he left his undergarments and tools at Stratford town hall before he disappeared!
