Alexander Laidlaw marriage?
« on: Saturday 17 September 11 14:19 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm trying to find a marriage of Alexander Laidlwa in Galashiels sometime between 1901 and 1915.

He was born in 1880 in Galashiels, his father was William and his Mother Mary.

Any info on the marriage anyone can find would be great thanks.

Sammy An.

Hi

There's this death  in Gala April 23  1948. Alexander Laidlaw. Aged 68. Married to Agnes Rankin.

Parents - William Laidlaw, woollen mill worker and Mary, m.s. Alexander. Both deceased.

However, a marriage to Agnes Cowan Rankin didn't take place until 1932, Edinburgh, St Giles

There are 8 marriages showing between 1901 and 1915. None are in Selkirkshire so a bit iffy to decide if any are relevent.

Is there a reason for you to select 1901 and 1915?

The 1932 marriage show them as being 52 and 42 respectively and both single. Marriage was by Sherriff's warrant (by declaration)

Think a peak at his birth cert might be in order  :)

Alexander Laidlaw was born  27 June 1879 , Galashiels. Parents William Laidlaw and Mary M.S. Alexander.

So the marriage and death look correct  :)

Oh dear - just read the small print on his death cert ~

He died at 7 mins past 8 23 April 1948

On the Galashiels to Selkirk Railway Line, 30 yards on the Selkirk side of Galafoot Bridge.

The RCE  records ~multiple injuries, the result of being run over by a a railway train (suicide)

How sad, poor man and poor Agnes  :'(
