Eggleston, Eccleston
« on: Monday 19 September 11 10:34 BST (UK) »
Seeking information about my husband's ancestors. Three brothers Eggleston/Eccleston - John, Geporge and Major - came to Australia in 1864.  Parents names John Eggleston and Ann Wagg, County Cavan. I know little about their Irish roots and would like to know more about John and Ann and other sibblings. Thanks heaps,
Kerry

To find Irish ancestors for such an early period you need to see if church records exist.
Have a look at Introduction to Irish Records and My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start?.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Many thanks,
I have looked at the sites you suggested and have gathered a bit more info. Also got some more info on another line that I was looking into, so that is an added bonus.
Thanks again, Kerry

I am interested in the various Eccleston/Eggleston families, in particular those from Cavan. One method of
finding connections is through Dna-testing.  Look at the Eggleston/Eccleston section at Familytreedna.com.
The database has two individuals with Irish ancestry.  You should consider Y-dna testing of a male relative.
The Cavan family of John and Ann also had members who emigrated to Canada as well as members who
remained in Ireland.

Hi Stewnkez ref your post have you looked at the Irish census 1901
www.nationalarchives.ie/census
There is an ECCLESTON family in House 2 Corr, Cavan which includes a John,George & Major.  Seems like they could be a branch of the family you are researching . :)

I have a DNA match to this Cavan , Eggleston branch and I’m trying to connect it back to my Eggleston ancestors in England.  Has anyone had any luck taking this Cavan branch back very far?
