scottish census records 1851/1861 SHEEHAN
« on: Monday 19 September 11 13:55 BST (UK) »
Great great grandfather ALBERT SHEEHAN is causing a bit of a problem. he was born 1840 ish Maryport, Cumberland.
Son of John Sheehan and Ann. John Sheehan was customs officer. The whole family disappears for 1851/1861 census.
he married Margaret Hill 1861 (maryport) but rumor has it that the family went over the Solway Firth into Scotland.
His daughter Ann Sheehan married my grandfather Tom Abbot Irving 1891 (Maryport)

Hi Frances,it seems John and Ann had another son Henry born in Maryport in 1842.On the 1851 census I can find an Albert P. Sheans and a Henry G. Sheans aged 10 and 8.They are in Cockermouth and described as lodgers with Thomas and Sarah Wedgewood.Could one of these boys be your Albert.

George.

Hi Seoras

Thank you, the answer is I don't know, when I go home tonight I will have a look through. I thought all the other brothers were born in ireland.  The father John, lived into his 70's and ended up with his son Richard in Bonnesstruther (north of Edingburgh, not sure if the spelling is correct).

The plot thickens.

Thank you I will let you know.

Frances

Yes - sorry, George - was thinking of the tax man as I typed   - will change  :-X :-[

Family search Baptism for Henry:

Maryport, 15 Aug 1842  Henry Perry Sheehan. Parents - John Sheehan and Ann

So it  looks as if the parents  left the two youngest with the Wedgewoods
