Had another look at the 1851 image -

They're down as Pauper and then someone else (coder) has written in orphan - so a possible explaation was that the coder was presuming that their parents were dead.

Yes,saw that.I am wondering if perhaps the mother was dead and the father had left them with the Wedgewoods.Though it could also be a way of getting cheap labour.Still they are still with Sarah Wedgwood 10 years later,so some kind of relationship perhaps.

Thank you to both, I had not picked up the misspelling of the name and I think you are right the coder has written orphan instead of pauper. I had not found Henry P at all.

I have the births of Matthew Hill and Ann (my grandmother) but not the other brother John.

It still raises the question on where did Albert get to on the  1871, 1881 census. Ann stayed behind with her mother
and Albert returns living with mother in law in 1891. John and Ann Sheehan seem to disapear from the census returns as well.

Thank you for all your help, a few more names on the chart.

Regards Frances

Morning gnu,I saw that but was puzzled by Matthew being 7 when he should be 15.Still it wouldn't be the first time the ages were out on a census ???
