Hales Pasture, Allostocks (Compete thanks)
« on: Monday 19 September 11 14:44 BST (UK) »
Hi Folks

Found out today that my gt gt gt gm Selina Oakes was on the 1861 census in a place called Hales Pasture, Allosocks.

Her father Thomas is down as a farmer with 145 acres.

A google search reveals Hales Pastures is still there, but does anyone know if the farm still exists? or are there any online maps of that area?

the next property down on the census looks like it was called Fountain Bloom Cottage/s

Any ideas anyone? please

Regards
Ken

Googling produced a reference for a sale of Hales Pasture Farm (mousepice.com)

The Cheshire tithemap site is great for comparing maps at different dates (and also has some aerial views). I found it there on:
http://maps.cheshire.gov.uk/tithemaps/TwinMaps.aspx?township=EDT_10-2
(you can then change dates scales etc as suits)

Excellent thanks - Just what I was after  ;)

Mouseprice does not tell you which farm it is but the maps do  ;)

Now to try and get a photo of the place  :P

Hi Ken,
Not sure if we've spoken on ancestry but Thomas Oakes is also an ancestor of mine and I've just stumbled across this thread whilst looking for Hales Pastures.
I only live a few miles away in Knutsford so I might drive down tomorrow and see what's there now.
Although I see from the date of the post it is 2011 so you may have already done so.
Not sure if you know the area but I have located Thomas Oakes and his wife Frances Oakes grave site in Lower Peover.
Have you found any further information on him?
Regards
Richard
