Could it be that the Gertrude M Anderson I mentioned  above could be your person.  The age/year fits for leaving school and she left school for Home Service, and that meant either she helped with the housework at home, or either they went and worked for other people.

Hi KHP

Just mulling over the school record info you've given for Gertrude M.  ... it's most interesting, especially in that it reveals a Parent/Guardian named "George", and a Sydenham (Christchurch) previous location.    :)

[Currently looking for a very solid brick wall, on which to bash my head on !    :D ]

Aah  ... will keep nibbling away at this search.

Khp- information i recieved is that her name was Maude Anderson they called her Pearl as a nickname but about the schooling im not sure if she went coz as the story goes (as received from sunnylyn) that George simply bought her home when she was 13 and announced that he was to marry her and he did and that she worked for her keep as a maid in their home.

Lu- Same goes for me lol i've found lots of other family but Maude and her family (i.e mums and dads etc) have me stumped lol but i've always loved a good mystery

Thanks alibas

Whoa  ... he's a handsome fella.   ;)

  **   So is this photo, one that has actually been passed down through your family .... or does it come from some other source ?

My concern is, that now it has been discovered the Thomas Henry ANDERSON who died in November 1930 (and was the husband of Lydia ... married in 1879), doesn't appear to have had a daughter named "Annie"  or "Annie Kathleen".   :-\

NOT UNLESS  ... this Thomas Henry had a previous relationship and Annie Kathleen, was a result of that ??

But there is no NZ birth registration for an Annie Kathleen ANDERSON in any year and so we sort of remain back at "square one".   :(

Hi again alibas

Can you tell me please, (from Maude and George's marriage cert.) ...

  *    where the marriage took place

  *    and the date

Maude was very young when she married and so she would have required the permission of "a parent or guardian", to wed.

The name of the person giving permisssion should be included in the Intention to Marry notice, which I can look up at Archives NZ.
