HM Prison Winson Green
« on: Monday 26 September 11 22:51 BST (UK) »
It has come to my attention that my great-great-great grandfather, Jonathan Stone, was an inmate at HM Prison Winson Green in 1881.

Does anyone have any info about this prison and where I might be able to find further information.

Many thanks

The ledgers containing particulars of prisoners are kept in Birmingham Central Library.
If you contact the library they have a resident genealogist who may help you.

Winson green prison is still there , has modern frontings on it. It's up by city hospital. I'm sure you'll get basic infoi.e history by googling.

Thanks I will bear that in mind. Unfortunately I do not live in Birmingham but may make a trip there in the future.
