Job Evans. Neuadd-ddu, Ystrad
« on: Tuesday 27 September 11 20:36 BST (UK) »
Hi

I have a tangled tale to tell.

My relative is Job Davies was born in 1840. He seems to be on the 1841 census living in Llanfihangel Ystrad with his grandfather Job Enoch under the name of Job Evans.

No relevant certificate for a Job Davies can be found. But there was a certificate for a Job Evans born to David Evans and Elizabeth Enoch in 1840. He was born in Neuadd-ddu. That is my first question, does anyone know this place is is a farm or cottage in Llanfihangel Ystrad?

Job remains with his grandfather until he marries.

Job Enoch seems to have taken in several of his grandchildren, a David Davies, Elizabeth Davies and Mary Beynon, all younger than Job.

Family search cannot help as to birth records of these children and I wondered what records might and if anyone has access to them??

Thankyou in advance for your help

Hello  :)

Not sure whether this is the right Neuadd Ddu, but it is not far away at Ciliau Aeron:

Did you see the marriage on freebmd of Elizabeth Enoch and John Davies in 1849?
Lampeter volume 27 page 89

Perhaps that is why Job became known as Davies?

Thankyou very much.

The photo is great, even if not the right one it was probably very similar!

I did see that marriage but the only Elizabeth and John I could find in Llanfihangel in 1851 had kids that overlapped with Job and his siblings Elizabeth and David. Eg they had an Elizabeth too.... It may well be worth ordering though.

Do you know the area I don't know it at all.

kind regards

rachael

Hello Rachael  :)

Have driven that road many times in the past, most recently in August.

If you look at the Genuki Cardiganshire page and search the 2 places, you will see that they are Parishes in neighbouring hundreds, and look to be closer together than the 3.7 miles distance between the placenames on the current roadmap.

Hello pricewynne

I have just seen your story about Job Evans who was living with Job Enoch in 1841.  I am the 3 X grandaughter of Job Enoch. What is your connection?

I have lots of information that can be shared.

Regards,

Vaynor

Thanks for you message Morgan.

I am new to this site and am trying to find my way around.  Not sure how I get started with postings, other than sending a reply in this way.

Can you point me in the right direction please?

Regards,

Vaynor
