MARSHALL family
« on: Thursday 29 September 11 01:24 BST (UK) »
Am trying to trace Joseph Marshall, who was born in Yorkshire circa 1826 but migrated to Australia with his wife and two daughters in 1853.  He and wife Anna Brown went on to have another five children that I have managed to locate birth information for.  I have also discovered Anna Marshall's death certificate from 1892, passing away at Mt Richmond (near Portland), Victoria - but at this point, I cannot locate Joseph's death.  Can anyone assist me please?

Online Will for Ann MARSHALL
Indicating she was a widow.
So Joseph ? deceased prior to 1892.

Could you type up the information on the death certificate please?

Have you checked her place of burial to see if Joseph is at the same cemetery?

Who was the informant on the death cert?

Hi Cando,
Have checked her certificate of death - it states that Thomas Marshall, son of the deceased of Mount Richmond is the informant.
It also states that her burial is 26 January at Narrawong Cemetery.  Unfortunately all I can see on the Narrawong Cemetery website is Grace Marshall's details.

It would appear that Joseph MARSHALL of Mt Richmond was still alive in 1888 unless of course Joseph and Ann/a had son of the same name.

You need to contact the cemetery trust for burial records.  The online data is only for graves with headstones.

Do you have Joseph's year of birth?  Should be on the shipping record.

There is a file on PROV Wills & Admons for a Joseph MARSHALL, Farmer, Nt [sic] Richmond  Date of death 17 Sep 1891

Death with no age :(  Only 1891 MARSHALL Jos* death and I wonder if the place of birth should be the place of death.

MARSHALL William Joseph
Father Thomas  Mother Margaret DUREEN
Birth place Portland  1891  Reg#36113

Is this their marriage?
Marriages Mar 1849
BROWN Anna    Otley 23/476
MARSHALL Joseph  Otley 23/476

This cert would be useful to find the name of his father....will have a look on the 1841 census to see if I can find him with a father Thomas.  Perhaps you already have this information?

HI Cando,
On the SHipping Record for the Parsee it states that Joseph is 26 years old and the ship arrived on 11 January 1853 - therefore circa 1827.

There is no death for a Joseph MARSHALL in 1891 so wonder if the death registration did not reach the Registry or perhaps wasn't registered at all.

I think you only hope now is contacting the cemetery trust to see if he is buried at Narrawong.

I will also have another look at the Joseph MARSHALL deaths....but would think the index on PROV to be accurate...but then again ;D
