East Drayton P/R's
« on: Friday 30 September 11 17:47 BST (UK) »
I am researching the Gurnell family they appear to have moved from Nottinghamshire to Stallingborough Lincolnshire. I have traced William and Barbara Gurnell to the place of their marriage which is East Drayton Notts.
They married 2 Dec 1762 at East Drayton. I am trying to find out more about their marriage and also if they had any children between 1762 and the birth of their first known child in 1767. I also have a Thomas and an Elizabeth unaccounted for. Does anyone know where the parish records are? Any help would be appreciated

   Thanks Steve

Hi Nottsgirl1
Thanks for the offer of looking up the Gurnells, If you have chance could you check the marriage of William Gurnell to a Barbara Staniland ( I think ) about 2 Dec 1762, could be as early as 30 Nov 1762, in East Drayton.

The first child I have is Mary b abt 1768, c 11 Dec1768  at Stallingborough Lincs ,so there is a 5 year gap and I think there should be some more children If you get chance to look. as I said in my first post there is a Thomas and an Elizabeth that I cannot account for yet so it may be them but I only have a death for Thomas Sept 1777 and a marriage for Elizabeth 1785.

Thanks again for your kind offer

Hi Steve,

Marriage of William Gurnell and Barbara Staniland 2 Dec 1762 at East Drayton,
sorry that's all the detail the marriage gives.

Also found Baptism's of 2 children of William and Barbara:
30 Sept 1763 Elizabeth
30 Aug 1766 Winnefried.

I'll keep looking for more info.

Hi Nottsgirl
Many thanks for taking the time to find those I think both the children are ours as I have just found a marriage for Winifred in 1794 to a John Green in Stallingborough.
It is a pity that the was no more info on the wedding of Johnand Barbara I was hoping for a witness or two, but never mind. I just have a Thomas who died in 1777 to find now and I do not know if he was born in Drayton or Stallingborough I'll just have to keep looking.
Thanks again for your help and If you need anything from Scarborough let me know even a stick of rock.

Hi Steve,

Yes sounds like the same Winifred.

I'll keep looking at East Drayton records as I only managed to do a few years.

Do you what any other Gurrnell's and Staniland I come across as I saw a few with the surname Staniland.

They didn't start to put witnesses on the marriages until the late 1700's and then fathers names in 1837.

The records for East Drayton started in 1755

Hi Nottsgirl
Thanks for the offer The only Gurnell that I have missing is Thomas D 1777 If he was born in East Drayton it could only be before 1768 as I have Baptisms in Stallingborough from then on. William and Barbara had 13 children including the two you found, Quite a family so I think that I have found about all of them.
William Gurnell was born in abt 1739 but I can only assume that it was Nottinghamshire till I find something definite.
Barbara's parents married i East Markham in 1730 so Barbara may have been born there but again I am not sure yet. Thanks again.
