Frederick GREEN and Agnes CARR
« on: Sunday 02 October 11 18:09 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for information on Frederick Green and Agnes Carr. I know only what is shown in the documents I have in my possession - such as New South Wales and Tasmania, Australia Convict Musters, 1806-1849 and various other documents related to their transportation to Australia; I am aware that they married and had children in Tasmania, but I have yet to find any more info on either of them in terms of birth places and exact birth years in England, as well as parents names.

http://www.convictrecords.com.au/convicts/carr/agnes/92095
http://www.convictrecords.com.au/convicts/green/frederick/28697

I would like to see these records:

Australia Marriage Index, 1788-1950
Marriage & Divorce

Frederick Broughan Green = Agnes Carr

Also, I would like to see these records, found in the Criminal Registers:

Location of Trial
"Frederick Green abt 1824 10 Apr 1837 Lancashire, England"
"Agnes Carr abt 1823 9 Jul 1838    Lancashire, England"

I would appreciate any suggestions about where to look for any other documents, that could, if these don't, state birth places and exact birth years in England, as well as parents name.

Could anyone help me?
Thanks.

Hi, Probably the best and most reliable source of correct information would be available on the marriage certificate for these two. It is at least from the Horses mouth so to speak. Have a look at the resources for Australia at the top of the board and follow those.
BDM records are available and transcriptions are cheaper than the certificates.

Hi 2011E,

You will not get details of birthplaces and parents from Tas certificates for that time period.  Have a look here at what you can expect to see http://www.jaunay.com/bdm.html

From Tas Archives
http://portal.archives.tas.gov.au/menu.aspx?search=11

Agnes CARR

http://search.archives.tas.gov.au/ImageViewer/image_viewer.htm?CON40-1-2,266,178,L,80
http://search.archives.tas.gov.au/ImageViewer/image_viewer.htm?CON19-1-14,256,9,L,80

Frederick GREEN

http://search.archives.tas.gov.au/ImageViewer/image_viewer.htm?CON31-1-16,256,242,L,80
http://search.archives.tas.gov.au/ImageViewer/image_viewer.htm?CON18-1-22,248,101,L,80

The name of the town on the right hand side of the description list is usually their native place.

I do not see a marriage for a Frederick GREEN and Agnes CARR in Tasmania.  Is there any particular reason that you think the couple having children in Tas were convicts and not immigrants?

Do you know where your Frederick and Agnes died?

I am aware that they married and had children in Tasmania, 2011E

So it seems the Victorian (reply #3) marriage is not your people and Debra sees no marriage in Tasmania.

Have you seen something that makes you think there was a marriage?

I believe that the marriage found by Sue in Victoria is your couple.  Frederick died in 1889 and Agnes in 1904, both at Launceston.  Agnes names one of her sons as "Frederick Brougham Green" in her Will.

http://portal.archives.tas.gov.au/menu.aspx?search=9

She also mentions daughter Agnes Eliza BILLING - Agnes married Thomas John BILLING at Launceston in 1876 and died in Victoria in 1923 aged 77.  This confirms that she was the first child, baptised in May 1845 in Tas before the marriage in Victoria.

Also, I would like to see these records, found at ancestry.com in England & Wales, Criminal Registers, 1791-1892:

Name    Estimated Birth Year    Date of Trial    Location of Trial
"Frederick Green    abt 1824    10 Apr 1837    Lancashire, England"
"Agnes Carr    abt 1823    9 Jul 1838    Lancashire, England"

These documents are digitised on Ancestry - if you don't have a sub then the website is free to view at most libraries.  The criminal registers state name, age, crime, date and place of trial, and sentence.

Agnes's death notice says she was in her 78th year in 1904, so born around 1826.  Her convict record has her born around 1823.
